Catching a breath - June 1, 2023

We had a great Memorial Day weekend, relaxing on the boat, just enjoying each others' company, and doing just a tiny bit of work.

This has been a slow week. I had some dental work done on Tuesday which left me feeling a little icky for a couple days, so we just took it easy while I recovered. (I had a couple old fillings replaced at the recommendation of my dentist). Today, Bean needed a little down time, so I dropped her off at the boat - she may do a little prep work for tomorrow, or she may not.

Tomorrow, we are hoping to get back to the non-skid. We will do the port side first, so Bean may clean it today, and then tomorrow we will tape, sand, and paint. Then we will enjoy our weekend again - maybe do some bilge pump updates ;-) - and then tackle the starboard side on Tuesday (I have a mammogram on Monday morning).

I did drop off the deposit for our rigging work this week though, so that is moving forward. They are mostly waiting for the necessary parts to come in, probably another 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, we will finish up the non-skid and get started on the electrical. I need to be careful not to take the boat out of commission until we get the mast back, but there is quite a bit I can do before I need to take it down. Lots of stuff to mount, wires to run, and maybe connect the new batteries if I get all of that done.

At this point, with the short days due to heat, we are aiming to be 'ready' to go by the end of July - but may just move the boat to Kemah for some better sailing for the summer and then leave after hurricane season. So many options on the table :-)

Harbor walk is a beautiful, quiet marina. It is off the beaten path and there is no reason for people to be out there unless they have a boat, so we have enjoyed it immensely. The only issue with it is sailing areas - everything around it is so shallow, we would have to motor for a couple hours to get anywhere we could properly sail.

For now, we are content in Harbor walk, enjoying its peace and serenity (and sea life) while we fix up the boat, but the day will come (soon we hope!) where it is time to move on and start a new adventure!
